I began working at Richmond Community College (RCC) January 19, 2009 as the Purchasing Agent, and began teaching Math as an adjunct instructor in the Fall of that year. Prior to my time at RCC, I worked at both Morrison and Scotland Correctional Institutions in an Administrative capacity; from secretary, personnel, accounting, up to two years of supervising inmate operations in the warehouse and canteens, supervising staff that were handling inmate information in the mailroom, inmate banking, and accounting.
I attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in May and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in December. I went back and received my Master’s in Business Administration in 2005. During the fiscal year, Fall 2010 – Spring 2011, I worked to complete the 18 graduate hours of Math required to teach Math full-time, and I was fortunate enough to obtain my current position at RCC.
I have two classroom philosophies…
1) “I will not give up on any of my students,” and
2) “The only dumb question is the one you walk out the door and do not ask!”
(I also believe that there is a magnetic field that students walk through when they leave the classroom, and everything they learn in class just drops whoosh! to the floor as they pass through it, so that they cannot retain for later use!) :-)
I want RCC’s Math Lab to be handled with the same concepts as above, but studying of any form will only be as effective as the time and effort each student is willing to put into it.
By the way, RCC’s Math Lab is on Moodle! Visit me there! This is a “work-in-progress”, as I am adding new items each week. As of the 2014SP semester, I am attempting to separate RCC’s Math Lab Moodle course into individual sections (by course) instead of every course being lumped into one site as before. So, please be patient and let me know if there is something you need and/or think would be beneficial! (If you are taking a course and do not see your topic, email me and I will add the information as soon as possible.)
