Richmond Community College’s Scotland Center, Small but Mighty

 

            Every 20 weeks, a new Nursing Assistant I course begins at the Richmond Community College Scotland Center in Laurinburg.  Students have the option of taking the course in a traditional classroom and clinical setting, or they can take it in an online/hybrid format with weekend clinicals.

            Tina Nielsen, RN, MSN is the program coordinator for the NA I & II and the Medication Administration program at the Scotland Center and joined RCC in 2004. Deborah Ingram, RN, BSN has been the instructor for the online program since 2006.  Both instructors offer students training to provide bedside care to patients.  The NA I certification has also become a requirement for prospective students in RCC’s Associate Degree Nursing program. 

            This session has produced a significant number of health care providers ready to enter the job market or to continue their education.

            Graduates of the Scotland Center class are, first row, Amy Self, Paula Scott, and Wanda Harp.  Second row, Candace Allison, Derisa Glenn, and Ruth Nicholson. (Not pictured are:  Wendy Kemble-Lee and Tawana Deese.

            Graduates of the online class are:  seated, Giselle Castillo, Karen Odom, and Becky Manivanh.  Second row:  Deborah Ingram, Lora Howton, Mary Locklear, Shaneika Little, Kimberly Bridgeman, and Diamond McBride.
