ACCUPLACER Assessment

The next step in the admissions process is to take the ACCUPLACER assessment. This assessment was developed by the College Board to provide information on your Reading, Sentence Skills, Arithmetic, and Elementary Algebra skill level. Minimum skills are necessary for success in college. By assessing your ability levels in these areas, we can determine which of our English, Mathematics, and Reading courses are most appropriate for you. We also administer a typing assessment that gauges your typing ability. All applicants must test unless they have satisfactory SAT or ACT scores and/or transcripts (when applicable) documenting proper degrees, allowing testing exemption.

ACCUPLACER assessments may be scheduled by contacting the following:

Main Campus (Hamlet, NC) 910-410-1730

Honeycutt Certer (Laurinburg, NC) 910-410-1831

If you require accommodations for the ACCUPLACER assessment, please contact Cayce Holmes in Student Services prior to your testing date. You will need a request from a medical doctor or psychologist stating your disability and the type of accommodation(s) requested.

Perpare for the ACCUPLACER by enrolling in free College Readiness course by calling 910-410-1786.

SAT or ACT Substitution

SAT or ACT scores may be accepted in lieu of ACCUPLACER. You may have SAT or ACT scores sent to the Admissions Office, or have them included as part of your high school or college transcript. Appropriate SAT scores are less than five years old and at least 450 on Critical Reading and 450 on Math. Appropriate ACT scores are less than five years old and at least 18 on Reading, 18 on English, and 17 on Math. If you have questions concerning your SAT or ACT scores, or exemption from ACCUPLACER, please contact any of the counselors at Richmond Community College at 910-410-1730.

Degree Substitution

Students who have received an associate or higher degree are exempt from testing with an official transcript from a regionally accredited institution.

The final steps in the admissions process are to talk to a counselor about your ACCUPLACER results and your educational goals. We recommend that all steps of the admissions process be completed no later than a month before the semester you would like to begin your matriculation.
