The Robert L. and Elizabeth S. Cole Auditorium is excited to have been selected by Trokia Entertainment and Columbia Artists Theatricals to host the technical rehearsals and two preview performances of the Broadway show CATS. The show will be crossing the United States from late 2011 and into 2012, but will get it start in Richmond County!
Hosting technical rehearsals means that the cast and crew of the show will be using our facility to prepare the show, which is not currently touring, to go out on the road again for it's national tour. The 8 days of equipment load-in production meetings, orchestra rehearsals, choreography rehearsals, set building, and wardrobe preparations, the Cole Auditorium will host two full preview performances of the show, on Monday, December 5 and Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 7:30p.m. In short, this means that Richmond and Scotland counties and the surrounding area will be treated to the first two public performances of the show as the cast and crew make final preparations for the national tour. Tickets will be available for these two performances to the general public on a reserved seat basis.
CATS is the second-longest running musical to be presented on Broadway and the longest continuously running touring show. Based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, and with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS won seven 1983 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Lighting and Best Costumes
