Transfer Opportunities

Richmond Community College offers two associate degree programs designed to allow seamless transition to four-year institutions: Associate in Arts (A.A.) and Associate in Science (A.S.). These programs are designed to offer students the freshman and sophomore years of a baccalaureate-track program.

The Associate in Arts program is designed for students desiring a bachelor's degree and/or pre-professional training in areas other than fine arts and natural/biological/ mathematical sciences. Students who plan to major in such disciplines as art, business, economics, history, humanities, liberal arts, liberal arts education, music, political science, psychology, and sociology should consult a counselor about enrolling in the A.A. program.

The Associate in Science program is designed for students desiring a bachelor's degree and/or pre-professional training in biological, mathematical, or natural science disciplines.

North Carolina Community College System and the University of North Carolina System

The North Carolina Community College System and the University of North Carolina System have developed a Comprehensive Articulation Agreement which greatly improves the transfer process between community colleges and the campuses of the University. A number of North Carolina's Independent Colleges and Universities have signed similar agreements.

Students planning to transfer should discuss requirements with academic advisers at their community colleges at the beginning of their studies. Transfer performance data can help you choose the community college and public university that will meet your needs.

Transfer agreements do not guarantee admission. Students should contact admissions offices at the four-year institutions to which they plan to apply for specific admission requirements.

Associate in Applied Science Articulation Agreements

RCC has articulation agreements with several colleges and universities that accept associate in applied science degrees. Universities accepting RCC course credits include Franklin University, Gardner Webb University, Strayer University, and UNC Pembroke. If you are interested in transferring to other colleges or universities, talk with our counselors for assistance in making the appropriate contacts to assure courses will transfer.
