The Richmond Community College Board of Trustees and the

Presidential Search Committee invites applications for the position of President.

THE COLLEGE

 

 Richmond Community College is a comprehensive, public, two-year college that serves Richmond and Scotland Counties. The College was founded in 1964 and has transitioned from a technical college to a community college. The main campus is located in Hamlet, NC, just a short distance from the I-74 corridor. The main campus includes seven buildings, including an auditorium and community center, on an attractive 160 acres. The College also has facilities in Laurinburg (Scotland County) and the James Building in Hamlet. Richmond Community College is one of the fifty-eight colleges that make up the North Carolina Community College System. The College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees, associate in applied science degrees, diplomas, and certificates in a variety of programs. With a population base of 83,000, the college served around 8,000 individuals in 2007-2008, generating approximately 2,100 FTE. RCC employs 173 full-time and approximately 150 part-time faculty and staff. The College's operational budget for 2009-2010 is approximately $ 19 million. Desirable Presidential Characteristics and Qualifications

 

The successful candidate will possess a master's degree from an accredited institution, with a doctorate preferred, and have significant years of higher education administrative experience, or comparable experience in private industry. The successful candidate will be required to live in the College's service area.

The incoming president shall be a visionary, energetic, and ethical leader who can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Board the following skills:

  • Successful performance in a senior level administrative position in higher education or the equivalent in private industry.

  • Ability to manage an institution with multiple locations with a vision for the expansion of services and opportunities.

  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with the Board of Trustees to implement policies and govern the operation of the college.

  • Ability to lead effectively and delegate as needed, in cooperation with administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

  • Ability to communicate enthusiastically the role and needs of the college at the county and state levels, and to serve as the principal representative of the college in the service area.

  • Demonstrated skills in fiscal planning management, budget development, and strategic and long-range planning.

  • Commitment to economic and workforce development, area industries and businesses, and the public schools, with an understanding of the current state of technology in our society and a keen interest in future developments.

  • Ability to build consensus and work with various and diverse stakeholders and is sensitive to and appreciative of ethnic and cultural diversity.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with superior writing and oral communication abilities.

  • An understanding of the teaching/learning process in a community college.

  • Experience with and/or understanding of fund raising and the oversight of construction projects.

Salary will be based on the North Carolina Community College System's presidential salary scale, plus a local supplement.
